Most of Timanfaya National Park is protected, so visitors see its core from the park's own coach route through the lava fields, which starts from the visitor area. Around that sit camel rides at the edge of the park, island coach tours that include it, guided walks on permitted trails, and e-bike or buggy trips nearby.

Plan it properly

What a visit to the Montañas del Fuego involves: timed tickets at €30 for adults, the rules at the El Taro entrance, the geothermal demonstrations at Islote de Hilario, the Ruta de los Volcanes bus, the El Diablo restaurant and the tours that include it all.
The other ways to experience Timanfaya: the park's free guided walks (Tremesana and the coast, booked a month ahead), the camel rides at the Echadero (€11, 20–25 minutes), the Mancha Blanca visitor centre and a guided hike across the lava fields.

A timed Montañas del Fuego ticket costs €30 for adults, €15 for children 7–12 and nothing for under-7s. There are no changes or refunds, and you should be at the ticket office 15 minutes before your slot.
Not on your own. The visit includes the Ruta de los Volcanes, a 12 km bus tour of about 45 minutes inside the national park, and you may not get off the bus at any point.
The eruptions of 1730–1736 covered about a quarter of the island. Timanfaya was declared a national park on 9 August 1974.
The park lists a guided camel ride, and several tours include an optional camel ride or a stop at the camel centre.
